The head of state remarked that Estonia and Slovenia are like-minded countries in the European Union and NATO and that the two enjoy regular cooperation at all levels. He nevertheless added that there is potential for enhanced cooperation in the trade, tourism and digital fields.
In meeting with Ambassador Kim, President Karis expressed his delight that Estonia and South Korea are taking their already good relations to the next level, since Seoul is now home to an Estonian embassy and business hub. The head of state added that the two countries already work closely together on defence, with Estonia acquiring propelled artillery systems from South Korea, but that there remains room for closer economic cooperation.
President Karis spoke to both of the ambassadors about continued support for Ukraine, including in the form of ammunition and weaponry, and further raising the cost of the war for Russia. He noted that the first thing to be dealt with is Russia’s skirting of sanctions via third countries, stressing that fair and lasting peace can only be established in Ukraine on terms dictated by the Ukrainians themselves and once Russia has been brought to justice for its crimes of aggression.
The Slovenian ambassador resides in Riga, while the South Korean ambassador resides in Helsinki.
