“Since the earliest days of the republic, Estonia has pursued – and for the most part continues to pursue – a very clear mission,” President Karis remarked upon presenting the award. “Key initiatives and movements, from our song festivals to the “Let’s Do It!” campaign, have sprung up from the drive and determination of people with a sense of that mission. The work they do, the contribution they make, is invaluable. Its worth cannot be measured in monetary terms.”
President Karis remarked that although the Phenylketonuria Association is small, as a community it is very close-knit. “What they do is based on caring about and helping one another, assisting those weaker than them and encouraging those who are stronger,” he said. “They are guided by the latest knowledge and strive to constantly develop, all to make the world a better place.” The head of state added that he valued the association’s dedicated work during the COVID crisis and the support it has shown Ukraine in shipping aid to the beleaguered country.
The Social Work Award was accepted on behalf of the association by Ann Õun. It is valued at 5000 euros and is sponsored by Cleveron.
Last year the award was won by the SPIN development programme. Earlier recipients include the Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre at Viljandi Hospital and the NGO Peaasjad.
