The meeting of the Baltic president´s in Kuressaare is part of a yearly tradition, which was begun in 1991. The traditional meeting is hosted by the state presiding over the Baltic cooperation for the year. The priorities of Baltic cooperation this year are regional security, cyber cooperation, connectivity, climate change and environmental questions.
According to Lauri Kuusing, the Foreign Affairs Advisor of President Kaljulaid, the heads of state will also discuss the pandemic and the fruitful multi-level coordination during the crisis, which was a foreign affairs success story. “It has brought us even closer to each other, increased mutual trust and laid a foundation to discussing some other important questions such as energy and transport, where cooperation is unavoidable, beneficial to all and increases the security of the region,” Kuusing added.
On June 25 there will be an official welcoming ceremony at the Kuressaare Central Square, meeting of the three presidents and a press conference. The presidents of Latvia and Lithuania will plant trees in Kuressaare Castle Park and later the heads of state will visit the Kaali meteorite crater.
The meeting takes place in Kuressaare in order to draw attention to domestic tourism in the Baltic countries and to invite people to discover the lovely places of all three countries this summer.
