After that, President Rüütel visited Kuperjanov Single Infantry Battalion, where Commander of the unit Captain Eero Reho greeted the Head of the State. The Head of the State familiarised himself with the activities of the unit and its future perspectives, and attended the cornerstone ceremony of a new barrack. In his greeting address, President Rüütel highlighted the importance of military service in cultivating the willingness of young people to defend the country. ''I am very glad that our Defence Forces pay a lot of attention to the modernisation of military service and today one more step has been made towards that goal. The improvement of living conditions of servicemen, certainly, gives a sign that military profession is increasingly more valued in our society,'' the President of the Republic said at the barrack's cornerstone ceremony.
The Commander of the Defence Forces Vice Admiral Tarmo Kõuts and the acting Governor of Võru County Krista Paal accompanied the President of the Republic.
