President of the Republic proposed the appointment of Uno Lõhmus to the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Estonia.

Today President Lennart Meri wrote a letter to Toomas Savi, Speaker of the Riigikogu, where he requested Riigikogu to recall Rait Maruste from the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Estonia in connection with his election to the post of Justice of the European Court of Human Rights as of August 20, 1998.
