Forty-one recent works by Estonian artists can be seen on the exhibition. When opening the exhibition, President Meri said that the Estonian art of painting in the second half of the 20th century was indeed the art of remaining true to oneself. ''It was my wish to be convinced of this once again, and to convince you, and above all to thank you all for this once more,'' the President said.
The exhibition summing up the Estonian art of painting at the turn of the century should arouse interest also outside Estonia: ''This exhibition might arouse your curiosity to find out how Estonia has succeeded in remaining Estonia,'' President Meri says in the foreword of the exhibition catalogue that was published for the opening day of the exhibition and contains photographic reproductions of all the works exposed on the exhibition.
