The President of the Republic met with the leaders of the Estonian economic life

President Lennart Meri invited Estonian economic leaders to lunch to the Presidential Palace at Kadriorg today. During the meeting, the effect of the events in the U.S.A. on the Estonian economy and politics was talked about. The subject of the presidential elections was also discussed in the light of the events in the U.S.A.

The Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry thanked President Meri for the long and effective co-operation. Toomas Luman aknowledged that the President of the Republic has been an important person for the Estonian economy. “It has been very important for the Estonian economy to have the President of the Republic open doors for the Estonian businesses in the world”, said Luman.

The President of the Republic thanked all entrepreneurs for the co-operation and reminisced particularly warmly about the state visit to Italy in which a delegation of Estonian entrepreneurs also participated. According to President Meri, entrepreneurs have been the ones that have lighted the spark from which the fire that has warmed Estonia has risen. The fire that has given to Estonia the prosperity, which is small compared to that of Finland, but large compared to that of Estonia 15 years ago.
