The President of the Republic appointed Tarmo Mänd to the post of the Director of the Office. As a professional public servant, Tarmo Mänd has been the leader of Hiiu County, worked as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and the Director General of the State Chancellery. In 1994-1995, Tarmo Mänd served as the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic on the invitation of President Lennart Meri.
As the President of the Republic said, he made the decision to appoint the new Director of the Office of the President proceeding from Tarmo Mänds long-term experience as a public servant, especially his experience as the Director of the office at the time of former President Lennart Meri.
