“Estonia shares longstanding ties of friendship with Latvia and Finland. Good neighbours and reliable allies are of great value to Estonia. In today’s uncertain world, these relationships must be nurtured by listening to one another, understanding each other and finding common solutions to the security challenges we face. That is why my first foreign visits will take me to Latvia and Finland,” President Madise said.
The meetings will focus on strengthening defence cooperation, enhancing Europe’s defence capabilities and maintaining strong transatlantic relations. Discussions will also cover support for Ukraine, Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) cooperation and regional security. The development of energy and transport connections, as well as the protection of critical infrastructure, will also be on the agenda.
On Tuesday afternoon, President Madise will meet with President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs in Riga. Following their meeting, the two presidents will hold a joint press conference at 16:40, which can be watched live at: https://www.youtube.com/live/KZw49VbdHIc?si=MhIMt_JnK9px4jGy
