“There are opportunities for Estonia and Jordan to pursue cooperation in the fields of health technology, digital solutions, AI, cyber security and the defence industry,” the head of state noted. “We hope this mutual interest will lead to concrete initiatives that benefit both of our countries.” She added that the Crown Prince’s visit would enable him and the Jordanian delegation to learn about Estonian businesses and the country’s experiences.
Speaking on the subject of European security, President Madise stressed the need for ongoing support for Ukraine. Jordan has consistently backed Ukraine’s territorial integrity, including in votes on UN resolutions, and the head of state called for this to continue. “I have invited a high-level delegation from Jordan to the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Tallinn in January so that together we can find solutions that help Ukraine get through the winter and, in the longer term, to restore a safe living environment for its people,” she explained.
President Madise reiterated Estonia’s solidarity with Jordan and other countries in the region that have come under attack from Iran, and commended Jordan for repelling the attacks. She also condemned the terrorist attack that took place in Jordan on 23 October.
“The hostilities in the Middle East are causing enormous suffering to people, and they are also affecting Europe’s security,” she said. “Jordan is constantly working to ease tensions and secure peace. Those efforts deserve our utmost respect.”
The head of state also thanked Jordan for delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. Estonia continues to support UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, allocating 70,000 euros to it this year. “The humanitarian situation in Gaza and the deteriorating situation in the occupied West Bank are deeply concerning,” President Madise added. “A two-state solution is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve, but we see no viable alternative to it. Both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples must be able to live in safety and with dignity.”
