Prime Minister Kristersson provided President Karis with an overview of Sweden’s progress in joining NATO.
“Estonia and Sweden think and act alike. We must find ways to reinforce our shared Nordic-Baltic identity and cooperation. The efforts of the countries in our region are more effective when we work together in ensuring our regional security and supporting Ukraine in their fight for their freedom and winning back the territory invaded by Russian aggression,” said President Karis.
President Karis and Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson highlighted the importance of paying more attention to strengthening ties in the fields of education and research. Consequently, the Estonian head of state is planning a visit to Lund and Malmö in early April with a delegation of researchers, entrepreneurs and university rectors, the central topics of which will be the promotion of cooperation between Estonia and Sweden in research, education and innovation.
Sweden holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of this year.
