“Estonia will do everything in its power to contribute to Ukraine’s victory,” said Karis when answering the telephone call of the Ukrainian Head of State. “We will certainly continue to provide military assistance to the maximum possible extent and the next package of military assistance is being approved by the government. Strong international support must continue for as long as Ukraine remains unliberated in its own territory. We need to understand that the war of aggression launched by Russia is not only a threat to Ukraine but to the whole of Europe. Your war is also our war.”
The Heads of State spoke about the difficult situation on the front, where deadly battles are ongoing, and said that strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities, especially in regards to air defence, artillery and armoured vehicles, is essential for success.
President Karis said that Estonia is also working with its allies and partners to ensure that these weapon systems get to Ukraine as soon as possible, as this is of critical importance.
President Zelensky thanked the Estonian state and its people for the assistance given to Ukraine. He highlighted the important contribution Ukraine has received in the shape of military assistance, refugee reception and support for Ukraine’s aspirations to become a member of the EU and NATO. Zelensky confirmed once again that Ukraine sees Estonia as one of its closest friends.
