President Alar Karis held a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Warsaw today, exactly one year after their meeting in Kyiv prior to the outbreak of the Russian war of aggression.

President Karis recalled his visit to Kyiv a year ago on 22 February, stressing that Estonia’s support has been unfaltering in the last year and it will continue providing Ukraine with both political and military assistance. “More than ever, I hope that this nightmare will end soon and Ukraine wins,” said the Estonian head of state.

President Zelenskyy passed on his congratulations to Estonia on its Independence Day and underlined its close friendship with Ukraine. President of Ukraine also thanked the Estonian nation for their unwavering support.

President Karis reiterated that Estonia will remain steadfast in backing Ukraine on its path to NATO and will discuss this with the president of the United States and the secretary general of NATO at the meeting of the leaders of NATO’s eastern flank. “Ukraine belongs in the European Union and, once the war has ended, also in NATO,” said President Karis.

Presidents Karis and Zelenskyy spoke about the visit of the U.S president to Ukraine and the current state of the war.
