As part of the Halifax International Security Forum, President Alar Karis has held a meeting with Olha Stefanishyna, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.

The meeting focussed on how best to support Ukraine in its hopes of becoming a member of NATO and the European Union. “Estonia wants to do everything it can to achieve clarity and consensus on Ukraine’s aspirations, because future prospects are as important as anything else in winning this war,” the head of state remarked.

President Karis asked about the state of energy infrastructure in Ukraine in the wake of wide-ranging Russian rocket strikes. Deputy Prime Minister Stefanishyna said the attacks had not had the demoralising effect the enemy were hoping they would achieve. “Despite the suffering and losses that come with the destruction of civil infrastructure, there is growing hope of victory, which is why we should already be thinking about how we can rebuild Ukraine,” President Karis said.
