Celia Kuningas-Saagpakk, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the President of the Republic, says that issues which are of importance to Europe as a whole at the moment will be at the heart of the meetings held by the head of state in Brussels. “The clear and unified response from the European Union to the hybrid crisis and to shared security concerns is confirmation of the strength of the cooperation that exists between Member States,” she remarked. “Forward-thinking discussions are also being launched to which Estonia is making a significant contribution, with a focus on cyber issues and the green and digital transitions, which go hand in hand with the smart and environmentally friendly reorganisation of the economy.”
President Karis will be meeting with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Council Charles Michel, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager, Vice-President Margaritis Schinas, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and Estonia’s members of the European Parliament.
While in Brussels, President Karis will also be meeting with Estonians serving in European Union institutions, Estonia’s Permanent Representatives to the EU and NATO and students, teachers and other representatives of the European Schools network in the Belgian capital.
Furthermore, President Karis will be visiting the prestigious WIELS contemporary art centre, where Estonian painter Tõnis Saadoja will be giving the head of state a guided tour of his newly opened exhibition ‘September, October, …’.
President Karis will be returning to Estonia late on Friday evening.
