In a telephone call to Finland’s recently elected head of state Alexander Stubb today, President Alar Karis congratulated his counterpart on his swearing-in and invited him to undertake a state visit to Estonia this May – the highest-level visit that can be made in relations between two countries.

Confirming the timing of the state visit for 27-29 May and that it would include one day in Tartu, President Karis added that President Stubb was welcome in Estonia at any time.

During the call, the heads of state discussed the newly affirmed unity in the Baltic Sea region. “Our security position is stronger than ever before with all of us now together in the world’s most powerful security alliance,” he remarked. “It was so gratifying to see the Swedish flag raised outside NATO headquarters.”

President Karis also spoke with President Stubb about further enhancing the close and very amicable bilateral relations between Estonia and Finland and continued support for Ukraine. “We are still giving the country as much help as we can, sticking to our promise of providing 0.25% of our GDP in assistance for Ukraine and doing everything in our power to ensure that they win the war,” he said.
