One of the issues discussed during the meeting was Russia’s war against Ukraine, with Senator Cruz and Congressman Doggett agreeing with President Karis that the price of aggression needs to be raised even further for the Russians in order to bring an end to the conflict. “It is vital that we continue to support Ukraine in every way we can until the war is over,” President Karis remarked. He also spoke about European security, saying that it is guaranteed through unwavering transatlantic cooperation in NATO.
The Estonian head of state also discussed with the Texan leaders opportunities for closer economic ties and encouraging entrepreneurs from both of their countries to make contact with one another, pursue closer cooperation and mutually invest. “If Texan companies are looking for opportunities in Europe, then look no further than Estonia,” he said. “We have a very similar way of thinking and we are very interested in working together. I am delighted that my visit has coincided with both Clevon and EyeVi Technologies opening offices here.”
President Karis remarked that the Unites States is known as a land of opportunity. “Texas is a rapidly developing region that itself offers so many opportunities,” he said. “You might even say it is becoming a new Silicon Valley. Estonia too is one of the best places in the world to do business.”
Further topics of conversation during the meeting were energy security and the diversification of energy sources.
President Karis is on a two-day visit to Texas, accompanied by an Estonian business delegation. On Friday he also met with Austin Mayor Steve Adler.
