President Karis says Estonia is interested in working with the Netherlands on cross-border renewable energy projects and in the country’s experience and knowhow in the fields of hydrogen and wind energy. “The Netherlands is an excellent partner to Estonia, one with a great interest and a wealth of experience in producing offshore wind energy,” he said. “A perfect example of the cooperation our two countries have undertaken is the major investment made by the renowned Dutch company Van Oord in the development of the Saare Wind Energy farm off the coast of Saaremaa.”
The head of state added that the Dutch are also an example to follow in the production of green energy from hydrogen. “I am hoping that we will enjoy good cooperation in the development of hydrogen projects with the Netherlands, which is at the forefront of the field in Europe,” he said.
The heads of state also discussed cooperation in NATO, issues related to the expansion of the alliance and objectives for the NATO summit being held in Vilnius in July.
President Karis further mentioned the multifaceted cooperation between Estonian and the Netherlands on defence, thanked the Dutch for their contribution to Baltic air policing and invited the Dutch airforce to Ämari to take part in the missions.
