According to President Karis, Estonia and Croatia have excellent bilateral relations and last year also marked 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Head of State spoke with the Croatian Prime Minister about the possibilities of assisting Ukraine. “I’m pleased that our positions on Ukraine are the same,” said President Karis. “We must increase our practical and political support to Ukraine to help secure victory on Ukraine’s terms. In the current security situation, we need unity in the European Union and NATO. We must continue supporting Ukraine in every way possible and to raise the price of the aggression for Russia with sanctions and energy carrier prices.”
President Karis said he was delighted that Estonia and Croatia have similar positions on many issues as NATO allies, consider Russia the biggest threat to the security of the allies and support the alliance’s open doors policy.
The Estonian Head of State congratulated Croatia on joining the Schengen Area and the eurozone. “Croatia is a popular tourist destination for Estonians and joining the common visa area and the eurozone will certainly contribute to an increase in the number of visits,” said President Karis.
The situation in the Western Balkans, including Russian influence in the region, was also addressed at the meeting. Energy security, diversification of energy sources, the inflation caused by rising energy prices and ways to mitigate its effects were also discussed.
