At a meeting with U.S. Ambassador George Peter Kent, the head of state commended the good bilateral relations between Estonia and the United States and passed on his greetings to President Joe Biden. “I thank the U.S. for their decisions in supporting Ukraine, which is an example for many. We must increase our aid in order to ensure victory on Ukrainian terms,” said President Karis. “The Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine is the key to long-term peace and stability in the region and Ukraine must be fully supported in achieving this.”
President Karis expressed his gratitude for the reinforcement of the NATO’s eastern flank, rotations of the military contingent and long-term, significant defence cooperation. “The security assistance that the U.S. has provided to the Baltic States in strengthening NATO’s eastern flank and accelerating the development of our capabilities has been vital,” said President Karis.
The ambassadors who presented their credentials to the Estonian head of state today included Ambassador of the United States George Peter Kent, Ambassador of the Republic of Panama Javier Alcides Bonagas De Gracia, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru Eric Edgardo Guillermo Anderson Machado and Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia Assad José Jater Peña.
When accepting the credentials, the Estonian president highlighted Estonia’s readiness to develop bilateral relations in the digital and cyber fields and good cooperation in international organisations. At meetings with all of the ambassadors, he stressed that support to Ukraine and isolation of Russia on the international arena must continue until peace is concluded on the Ukrainian terms. President Karis also noted that those responsible for war crimes in Ukraine must be held accountable and it is important to prosecute the perpetrators of both the aggression and war crimes.
During talks with the ambassadors, the Estonian head of state invited all of the countries to support the peace resolution of the UN General Assembly, which will be voted on already on this Thursday.
The ambassador of the United States resides in Tallinn. The ambassadors of Panama and Colombia reside in Warsaw and the ambassador of Peru in Helsinki.
