“Latvia and Lithuania will always be our closest friends, because of the space and the history we share,” said Lauri Kuusing, a foreign policy advisor to the head of state. “Our nations have rubbed shoulders here on the shores of the Baltic Sea for thousands of years. We share a vision for the security and future of our region and Europe. A century of diplomatic relations is a symbolic milestone worth celebrating, but there are always a lot of practical issues we can and indeed need to work on together as well.”
At the heart of the visit will be meetings between President Kaljulaid and her Latvian and Lithuanian counterparts. In order to reduce the risks posed by coronavirus, the meetings will take place according to the rules set and recommendations made by the competent authorities in the respective countries. The head of state will be returning to Estonia on Wednesday evening.
