President Kersti Kaljulaid met with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz this morning to discuss bilateral relations between Estonia and Austria, economic cooperation in the digital and green fields and the opportunities afforded by the Three Seas initiative. The head of state said that Estonian IT companies have a keen interest in Austria, as reflected in the number of representatives of smart transport and logistics firms accompanying her on her state visit.

One of the topics discussed at length during the meeting was the opportunities provided by the Three Seas initiative to accelerate economic development in the region. President Kaljulaid said that the initiative would complement other European Union measures designed to stimulate the economy and enable neighbouring countries (including the Western Balkans) to be included via cross-border projects.

During the meeting, the heads of state also discussed security on the European Union’s eastern border and the plane hijacking carried out by the Belarusian regime.

President Kersti Kaljulaid is on a state visit to Austria and will be returning to Estonia this evening.
