“The focus of the state visit is on digital and green transitions. Estonia has already achieved the digital transition and is happy to share the experiences with other countries. Austria on the other hand is one of the more advanced countries in European Union when it comes to climate ambitions and green transition. By combining our knowledge and experience we can jointly offer smart and sustainable solutions. This is also why many Estonian companies are interested in the Austrian market and Austrian partners,” Lauri Kuusing, Foreign Affairs Advisor to President Kaljulaid said.
The President of Estonia is accompanied by the Estonian Minister of Economic Affairs and Communication, Andres Sutt and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Parliament of Estonia Marko Mihkelson. The President is also accompanied by a business delegation comprised of companies from the areas of smart transportation and logistics.
During the state visit President Kaljulaid meets with the President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen, President of Austrian Parliament Wolfgang Sobotka, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and the Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig. Estonian-Austrian business forum will take place during the visit. President Kaljulaid will also visit Heinzel Group Holding and Boehringer Ingelheim.
Thursday morning President Kaljulaid and President Van der Bellen will participate in a debate moderated by Martin Selmayr, European Commission Representative in Austria on the topic of green, digital & geo-politics: Europe’s next frontiers after the pandemic. It is possible to watch the debate live on May 27 at 11.45 (Estonian time) here: Debatten zur Zukunft Europas - YouTube
A state visit is the most festive form of bilateral relations. In one year the President of Estonia generally goes on 1-2 state visits and hosts also as many.
President Kaljulaid will return to Estonia late on Thursday.
