Roman Herzog called special attention to the speech of the President of the U.S.A. Bill Clinton in Berlin yesterday, in which he had spoken relatively little about foreign policy, but had talked about the integration of Europe and the Baltic countries and mentioned also Estonia. The Heads of States talked also about other events of international life.
Roman Herzog emphasised the tremendous changes that have taken place in Estonia, comparing the situations seen 1991 and 1998. The Federal President of Germany expressed great satisfaction with what he had seen in the streets of Tallinn today, the street scene and everyday life of people has taken a long step further, he stated. He added approvingly that changes were possible also without a rich country supporting, such as West Germany was for East Germany.
President Lennart Meri and Mrs. Helle Meri gave a dinner in the honour of the guest and the Speaker of Riigikogu Toomas Savi and Prime Minister Mart Siiman were also invited to the dinner.
