The head of state spoke to the ambassadors about fostering bilateral relations and resolving conflicts around the world. He told them that it is very important to Estonia to support Ukraine, to help it win the war and to ensure the broadest possible international representation at the forthcoming peace summit in Switzerland. He said that every effort must be made to find a solution to the conflict in Gaza as well.
President Karis also touched on developments in the UN and explained why it is vital to press ahead with reforms to the UN Security Council. He stressed that progress must be made with the peace plan put forward by Ukraine, as it will guarantee the necessary framework for lasting peace.
In his meeting with ambassador Amna Mahmoud Mohamed Abdalla Fikri of the United Arab Emirates, President Karis expressed his delight that entrepreneurs from both the UAE and Estonia are looking to forge closer economic ties, with a business council having been established to boost trade and raise investments. The launch of direct flights between Dubai and Tallinn in October should contribute to this, as well as to increased cooperation in the field of tourism. The head of state also advocated greater cooperation in the fields of science and education.
In his discussions with ambassador Mimoza Halimi of Albania, President Karis confirmed Estonia’s support for Albania’s EU integration and acknowledged the excellent partnership between their two countries as likeminded allies in both NATO and the UN. “Estonia has always supported EU enlargement and the further integration of the countries in the Western Balkans,” he said. “We hope you maintain your enthusiasm for reforms so as to speed up the accession process. Let me say again that we are willing to help in any way we can when it comes to Albania’s integration.”
In his meeting with ambassador Ernesto Pinto Bazurco Rittler of Peru, President Karis said that Estonia was willing to share its experience of the digital transition, e-governance and cybersecurity with the South American nation.
The Albanian ambassador is based in Warsaw, while the Emirati and Peruvian ambassadors reside in Helsinki.
