President Kaljulaid meets with Irakli Kobakhidze, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia


President Kersti Kaljulaid met yesterday in Kadriorg with Irakli Kobakhidze, speaker of the Parliament of Georgia. The President confirmed Estonia’s continued support of Georgia and encouraged the country to continue with the implementation of reforms.

“Georgia has done a great job with implementing legislative reforms. The country’s general democratic and economic development is Georgia’s strongest suit and a guarantee of belonging to Europe in the future. Estonia continues to be a friend and supporter of Georgia; we are involved in over 20 cooperation projects and always ready to share our experiences,” said President Kaljulaid at the meeting. Georgia’s stable development and equal opportunities for all investors contribute to the revitalisation of the economic relationship between the two countries.

The Head of State also congratulated Georgia on electing a new president yet emphasised that following a polarised election campaign, it is vital to focus on uniting the people of Georgia.
The meeting also included discussions about security and the 10th anniversary of Russia’s military aggression towards Georgia. “Abkhazia and South Ossetia are parts of Georgian territory and the integrity of an independent country must be fully respected,” said President Kaljulaid.

Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia’s Parliamentary Speaker, is in Estonia at the invitation of Eiki Nestor, Speaker of the Estonian Parliament.
