Arnold Rüütel (May 10, 1928 – December 31, 2024) was one of the key figures in the restoration of Estonia's independence. Through his participation, the transitional period in occupied Estonia began, the illegitimacy of Soviet rule was declared, and independence was restored. As President of the Republic from 2001 to 2006, his goal was to promote the balanced development of Estonia. President Arnold Rüütel’s memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 11, in the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn.
