President Kaljulaid discusses human rights in Belarus with Polish counterpart

During a telephone call today, President Kersti Kaljulaid spoke to her Polish counterpart, President Andrzej Duda, about recent developments in Belarus, where a second wave of peaceful protests has begun which the authorities are once again attempting violently to suppress.

“We also talked about the arrest of Andżelika Borys, the leader of the Polish minority in Belarus, which I condemn in the strongest possible terms,” said the head of state. “We are keeping a close eye on the despicable persecution of the Belarusian opposition and human rights activists, third-sector representatives and journalists in the country and will continue to raise the issue in international organisations at every opportunity.”

Presidents Kaljulaid and Duda also discussed the coronavirus and vaccination situations in the European Union.
