The President of the Republic is on a state visit to Slovenia today and tomorrow

The President of the Republic is on a state visit to Slovenia today and tomorrow © Kaljulaid and Pahor meeting this July in Ljubljana.

President Kersti Kaljulaid begins today a two-day state visit to Slovenia. The purpose of the visit is to deepen co-operation between the two countries and to promote contacts between businesses.

“Estonia and Slovenia are quite similar in size and location on the periphery of the European Union, but the cooperation and communication between the two countries have not been very intensive so far. At the same time, there is a lot of potential because we are similar, pro-European and innovative small countries. The state visit is a good opportunity to increase mutual understanding of foreign and security policy issues and to promote cyber and digital cooperation between the two countries. But it will certainly also help to create new contacts and opportunities for our entrepreneurs, ”explained Lauri Kuusing, the Foreign Adviser to the President of the Republic.

The heads of state will be accompanied by a business delegation led by Toomas Luman, chairman of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Enn Eesmaa, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu and Martin Repinski, head of the Estonian-Slovenian parliamentary group, Mart Habakuk, EBS secretary.

Today, the Head of State will meet with President of Slovenia Borut Pahor and Chairman of the Slovenian National Assembly Dejan Židan and will address the most important conference of the year in Slovenia – the Bled Strategy Forum. Tomorrow, President Kaljulaid will meet with Slovenian Prime Minister Marjan Šarec, give a public lecture on Estonia's choices in recent decades at Bled School of Management, and visit the world-class Jožef Stefan Research Institute.

A state visit is the most solemn form of communication between the two countries. As a rule, the President of the Republic of Estonia makes 1–2 state visits a year and hosts the same number. President Kaljulaid was on a state visit to Portugal this spring.
The head of state will return home tomorrow evening.
