President Kaljulaid will take part in the swearing into office of the President of Ukraine in Kiev today

President Kersti Kaljulaid is today on a one-day work visit to Ukraine, where she will take part in the ceremony of the swearing into office of the new President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. The schedule also includes a bi-lateral work meeting between the two heads of state.

”For Estonia, Ukraine is an important partner and foreign policy priority. The frontline in East Ukraine does not run solely between Ukrainian villages, but also between two value spaces and worlds.

Ending the war and occupation in Ukraine, and giving a fresh push to reforms in Ukraine, serves both the interests of Ukraine and Europe in general. This must not be forgotten. Europe and the western world must not repeat the mistakes that were made in 2008 in Georgia,” explained Lauri Kuusing, Foreign Policy Adviser to the President of the Republic.

Apart from taking part in the swearing into office and work-related meeting with President Zelensky, the Head of State has scheduled a meeting with the Vice President of Turkey, Fuat Oktay, and with other presidents of the Baltic states, as well as a joint meeting with the United States Secretary of Energy, Rick Perry.
