President Kaljulaid met today with the Ministry of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany


President Kersti Kaljulaid met today in Kadriorg with the Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany, Ursula von der Leyen, to discuss cooperation between Estonia and Germany in the European Union and NATO.

According to the Head of State, Germany contributes considerably to enhancing security in our region by means of the enhanced presence of NATO allies, in particular to air security missions. The rest of the discussion focused on the impact of Brexit on European defence-related cooperation, the influence of strategic communication on the elections and how NATO and Europe could more effectively employ new technologies in the sphere of defence.

In the evening President Kaljulaid and Minister von der Leyen will give a presentation with the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, at the opening panel of the Lennart Meri Conference, “One Past, Many Futures”.
