President Kaljulaid to take part in an event preceding the Munich Security Conference

President Kersti Kaljulaid is on a work visit to Germany to participate in a strategic forum launched to prepare for the Munich Security Conference.

The Munich Strategy Forum, taking place from 2 to 6 December, will convene a small circle of opinion leaders mostly from Europe and the USA, current and former politicians, and think tank representatives. Among other issues, the future of the European Union, problems in the Middle East, defence co-operation in Europe and armament control will be discussed.

According to Peeter Kuimet, the Adviser to the President of the Republic on Security Issues, participation at the Munich Strategy Forum serves as a good opportunity to change ideas in an informal environment and collect information about the events in Europe and the world in general. “It will also help direct the attention of opinion leaders of the security sphere to issues important for Estonia and thus shape the agenda of the Munich Security Conference, which is among the most influential in the world,” Kuimet explained.

The organisation team of the Munich Security Conference has been arranging the strategy forum, which is intended as a preparatory event for a smaller circle of participants, since 2015. President Kaljulaid is taking part in the event for a second time. The security conference is held in February of each year in Munich.
