President Kersti Kaljulaid met yesterday in Detroit with the former Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, to discuss the role of communities and local governments in society, the global economy and Estonia’s digital society.

In relation to the City Lab innovation conference in Detroit, where President Kaljulaid will also give a presentation, co-operation between civil society and innovative solutions that local governments can use in the sphere of transport and sustainable development were discussed in detail.

At the City Lab conference, which takes place today, the future challenges of towns of the world will be discussed and experiences related to resolving problems will be shared. The Head of State will then proceed to New York to meet with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, ambassadors of the Francophonie countries and the African Union, give a presentation at Columbia University and visit the New York Estonian School.
