Today President Kersti Kaljulaid, at the proposal of the Prime Minister, released the Minister of Health and Labour, Jevgeni Ossinovski, and the Minister of Public Administration, Jaak Aab, from their respective offices. The Head of State appointed Riina Sikkut and Janek Mäggi to office as new ministers.

"Estonian politics need good specialists and capable people who know their areas of responsibility well. I wish the new Minister of Health and Labour success in her new role, said the Head of State in Kadriorg in appointing Riina Sikkut to office.

When appointing Janek Mäggi to office as the Minister of Public Administration, the Head of State emphasised that she believes the roles of a member of Government and someone with business interests to be incompatible. Lobbying followed by a transition to politics and back again has not yet been regulated in the Estonian legal space. However, this does not mean that the issue is a mere formality. We are speaking of integrity, openness and transparency of governance. Mr Mäggi also assured that he will not become involved in political lobby work for a certain period after his term in ministerial office expires, said President Kaljulaid, and she expressed her hope that the new minister will find a fast, clear and understandable solution to this problem.

In addition, the Head of State stated that she is seriously disturbed by Mr Mäggi's arrogant approach to combatting domestic violence. However, his statements do not pose a threat to our constitutional order and therefore I will today appoint both ministers to office, stated President Kaljulaid.
