President Kaljulaid at the appointment of the new Government to the office: this Governments represents the will of the people

President Kersti Kaljulaid met today at the Office of the President of the Republic with the ministers of the new government that was formed by the Centre Party, Socio-Democratic Party and Pro Patria and Res Publica Union and appointed the Government, led by Jüri Ratas, into office.

"Parliament has given Jüri Ratas the authority to form a government. This government and coalition agreement therefore represent the will of the people, as was the case with the previous coalition agreement. The people are never wrong; the people are always right. Both the coalition and opposition parties can challenge their choices during the next elections to the Riigikogu," said President Kersti Kaljulaid.

President Kaljulaid stated that Estonia is about to start the presidency of the Council of the European Union and at that time the state will require internal policy working peace, which is stronger than ever. "This is something that each and every politician should keep on mind, despite or specifically because that the elections of councils of local governments will be ahead," told the Head of State.

"The new government must continue to demonstrate our allies and partners that Estonia is a loyal ally of NATO and a demanding and active partner in the European Union. Estonia is an open and western minded democratic country and will not deviate from the road that we chose almost 30 years ago," she added.

The new government will give oath tomorrow at the Riigikogu and this will be followed by President Kaljulaid releasing the government, led by Taavi Rõivas, from the office.
