President Karis to meet with German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier
On the invitation of President Alar Karis, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the Federal Republic of Germany will be arriving in Estonia on Wednesday 15 March on a two-day working visit.
Presidents Karis and Steinmeier will be discussing the good relations between Estonia and Germany, including energy, digital and cyber cooperation. They will focus on Russia's aggression against Ukraine and ways to continue supporting the beleaguered country. Estonia and Germany are both committed to providing military and political assistance to Ukraine. Cooperation to strengthen the security of the Baltic Sea region, the reinforcement of NATO's eastern flank, the enlargement of the alliance and the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius will also be key topics for the two heads of state.
Presidents Karis and Steinmeier will also be talking about the future of the Europe. "If we really make an effort and are resourceful, then Konrad Adenauer's dream of a united Europe as the hope of many and the need of us all will come true," said President Karis. “Then we will be able to protect the Europe we have and be an encourager and helper to those who want to be part of it alongside us."
On Thursday 16 March, President Steinmeier will be meeting with Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.
